← VesTRA Why VesTRA

Everything known about vesicles, in one place you can trust.

Cells talk to each other by sending out tiny packages called extracellular vesicles. What science has learned about them is scattered. VesTRA brings it together, counts it one way, and shows you where every number came from.

Why VesTRA exists

Every cell in your body sends messages. It packs proteins, RNA and fats into tiny bubbles, called extracellular vesicles, and releases them into the blood, urine, saliva and other body fluids. Other cells read those messages. Because the packages carry a sample of the cell that made them, they can tell us what is happening inside the body, including in disease, from a simple blood or urine sample.

Researchers around the world have been studying these messages for years. The problem is where that knowledge lives: scattered across hundreds of studies and dozens of separate databases, each with its own names, its own formats and its own way of counting. Answering a simple question, such as "has anyone found this molecule in vesicles from blood?", can take weeks of reading.

VesTRA exists to end that. We gather what has been published into one place, apply one set of rules to all of it, and make the answer take a second instead of weeks.

  • One place. Type a molecule or a disease and see what the published record says about it, from many public sources at once, instead of searching each one by hand.
  • Every number traced to its study. Each count on the site links back to the papers and datasets behind it. You can check any figure yourself.
  • Counted the same way everywhere. A study is a study and a sample is a sample, whichever database it came from. That is what makes numbers comparable.
  • The full picture around each answer. Which body fluids, which methods, which kinds of vesicle, which species and which diseases, plus the registered clinical trials in the field.
  • Free and open. No account, no sign-in, no paywall.

Why partner with us

Any single lab sees its own corner of the field. VesTRA sees the whole of it.

That lets us show how a kit, a test or a database performs across the entire published vesicle field, not just in one lab's hands: which samples it has been used on, what it found, and how that compares with everything else. No single lab can do that on its own.

  • Makers of kits and tests can see where their product has been used and how its results compare across studies.
  • Database teams can see how their records sit alongside every other public source, counted the same way.
  • Research and clinical teams can bring a question and get an answer that draws on the whole field at once.

Why choose us

  • Open. The site is free to use, the sources are named, and the counting rules are written down on the About page for anyone to read.
  • Careful. Every figure is a count of something that was actually reported. Nothing on a molecule page is guessed or invented. Where a source left something blank, we leave it blank.
  • Every data point kept. We do not throw records away to make the numbers look tidier. When we join sources, we keep what each one said and where it came from.
  • Honest about limits. We say what this release cannot tell you yet, and we fix what is wrong. A number that cannot be checked against its papers is a bug, and we want to hear about it.

VesTRA is growing one release at a time. New sources are added as soon as they are checked, and each release says what it was built from and when.
